Brazil's Pork Exports Down in Volume, Up in Value

BRAZIL - Pork exports in June and for the half-year are down in volume terms compared to the same period last year but value is up in US dollar terms.

According to ABIPECS, Brazil exported 46,952 tons of pork in June 2010, which is 13.0 per cent less than the same month last year. Thanks to an increase of 30.5 per cent in the average price in US dollars, however, the overall value of the month's sales was 13.6 per cent higher at US$117.3 million.

Compared to the same time last year, pork exports for the year so far are down 8.4 per cent in volume to 269,697 tons, while the value of those sales is up 13.4 per cent at $661.3 million. The average selling prices is up 23.8 per cent at $2,452 per ton.
