Pork Production Down from Previous Year
US - Commercial red meat production for the United States totalled 3.96 billion pounds in July, down four per cent from the 4.12 billion pounds produced in July 2009, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), in their Livestock Slaughter report for August 2010.Pork production totalled 1.70 billion pounds, down seven per cent from the previous year.
Hog kill totalled 8.47 million head, down seven per cent from July 2009.
The average live weight was up 2 pounds from the previous year, at 269 pounds.
January to July 2010 commercial red meat production was 27.8 billion pounds, down two per cent from 2009.
Accumulated pork production was down four per cent from last year.
July 2009 contained 23 weekdays (including one holiday) and four Saturdays.
July 2010 contained 22 weekdays (including one holiday) and five Saturdays.
