EU Pig Prices: Great Receptiveness in the Market
EU - This week presents the European slaughter pig market as very receptive. Thus, the quotations move around the level achieved so far everywhere in Europe. These golden October days are suitable to lift the spirits. Especially in the north-western part of the Continent, the prices remain exceptionally stable. The fact is most striking that the corrected quotations in Germany, Denmark, France and Belgium range very closely between EUR 1.310 and 1.325 per kg slaughter weight. The corrected price in Denmark (as a country of low prices) still is higher than the German price level, just like it has been over the past seven weeks. Supply and demand tend to be well balanced altogether.
After some sideways movement, the Netherlands now bring up the rear among the five EU member countries richest in pigs. Exports of live pigs towards Eastern Europe prove to be difficult, but Dutch pigs are well enough demanded in the Netherlands as well as in Germany. In Spain, the prices continue to fall. In Great Britain as well the prices tend southwards, although there is no backlog supply and the slaughter companies increased their number of slaughters. In the face of increasing feedstuff costs, British producers refer to the phase as being decisive and one during which only ‘survival of the fittest’ is ensured.
Market trend for Germany: Prospects for the further development are exceptionally stable. There is brisk demand for pigs mature for slaughter from both the livestock trade and the slaughter companies. Most presumably, the autumn holidays thwart the price increase which is favoured by many producers.
