Compensation for Farmers of PRRS-Infected Pigs
VIET NAM - Dak Lak province is to compensate farmers whose pigs have been slaughtered as the result of blue ear disease.The Dak Lak Provincial Department of Finance has agreed to allocate 20.25 billion dong (VND) in support of local people who had to kill their pigs infected with blue-ear pig disease (also known as porcine reproductive respiratory syndrome, PRRS).
The financial support will be provided twice: VND13.44 billion for the first stage and VND6.81 billion for the second stage.
Blue-ear pig disease has occurred in 14 of 15 districts, towns and cities in the whole province. By the end of October 2010, as many as 105,023 pigs had been infected with the disease and 47,628 of them were already killed.
The situation is not yet under control and the losses are huge.
