EU Pig Prices: Germany is the New Number One
EU - The mood appears to be exceptionally good on the European slaughter pig market this week.Having set a clear sign with its 2 cents’ price increase, the German quotation has taken the lead. Germany now heads the list of the six European countries where the majority of pigs is held, thus letting Spain be second. The Belgian pig price also went up by 2 cents. As usual, the Dutch quotation followed, though increasing by only 1 cent. In Austria, however, the price shot up by as many as 4 cents. This is said to be a result of a brisk flow of goods, in defiance of the largest weekly quantity of goods on offer ever observed this year.
Some countries are strongly affected by severe currency fluctuations. The Polish quotation, for instance, went up perceptibly, but given the exchange rate, the price increase amortizes and does not get clear in the corrected quotation. The corrected quotation in Great Britain noticeably exceeds last week’s quotation despite the sideward movement as a result of the British pound’s value. In Sweden, the corrected quotation moves downward.
Market trend for Germany: There still is brisk demand for pigs mature for slaughter. So, the market is expected to at least keep on a price-maintaining level. However, some slaughter companies cause uncertainty by their wish to pay no more than just house prices.
