The slaughter pig prices are unchanged to firm all over Europe. The German quotation as the trend barometer basically is responsible for the situation to remain steady. The Spanish, Danish and Belgian quotations are also similar to last week’s prices. The Dutch quotation was able to gain one cent, thus reducing the price cap, compared with the other EU countries where the majority of pigs is held.

The Eastern European quotations (Poland, Czech Republic) still have a tendency to remain weak. The record-breaking quantities of pork exported from the EU are said to be one of the reasons for the market situation to be well-balanced throughout Europe. According to AMI information, exports went up by 14 per cent over the period from January to September 2010. As is said, pork and its by-products in particular being exported to Russia constitute the fundamental stimulation. At the same time, exports of live pigs to Russia were reduced clearly.

Market trend for Germany: As people say, the quantities of pigs mature for slaughter on offer are slightly increasing for seasonal reasons. Yet, the marketers imploringly quarry for pigs. Since the slaughter companies count on maximum use of their capacities, the prices are expected to remain unchanged. This trend is being supported by the cattle market being solid to even growing.
