Brussels Closes Pigmeat Storage Aid

EU - The private storage aid for pig meat introduced in the EU a few weeks ago because of the dioxin crisis has been suspended with retroactive effect from Tuesday 22 February.

This means that applications made from February 22 onwards will be rejected.

According to the Commission, until last Friday, applications for roughly 139,000 tonnes had been made.

More than 60 per cent of the requests came from Germany, Spain and Denmark with 28 per cent from Germany, Spain (21 per cent) and Denmark (13 per cent).

There was also a fairly even split between short and medium-term storage, with applications for 129,000 tonnes (on that day) being split between (68,000 for 90 days, 15,000 for 120 days, 45,500 for 150 days).
