New Welsh Red Meat Levy Rates

UK - New statutory levy rates for the Welsh red meat industry will be introduced next month. The Minister for Rural Affairs, Elin Jones AM has approved the new rates following a nine week consultation with the industry.

Dai Davies, Chairman of the Welsh red meat promotion agency Hybu Cig Cymru, said “This increase is necessary for us to continue to undertake the promotion and marketing of Welsh red meat at home and abroad, together with research and development activities for the benefit of Welsh producers, processors and the Welsh economy as a whole.“

The new Welsh Red Meat Levy rates from the 1st April 2011 will be:

Cattle – producer 34.34 per head
Cattle – slaughterer or exporter 31.33 per head Cattle Levy: 35.67 per head

Calf – producer 30.085 per head
Calf – slaughterer or exporter 30.085 per head Calf Levy: 30.17 per head

Pigs – producer 31.05 per head
Pigs – slaughterer or exporter 30.25 per head Pig Levy: 31.30 per head
