ASF Outbreak in Tanzanian Free-Range Pigs

TANZANIA - The Tanzanian veterinary authorities have reported another outbreak of African swine fever in the Mbeya region.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 3 yesterday, 31 May. The affected population consists of free-range pigs.

According to the report, a total of 900 pigs were found susceptible, out of which 75 cases were reported. While 65 deaths were recorded, no animals were destroyed.

Swill feeding has been identified as the main source of the outbreak.
