According to Mr Yaroslavsky, this development is quite predictable as the growth rate of pork production in Ukraine has beaten all records. At the same time the UAC indicates that foreign markets will not be able to remove all surplus pork to domestic markets, but the trend is expected to be very positive. Overall, 2011 has been the year for Ukraine's early exit of pork to foreign markets.

In January-March 2011, compared to the same period last year, a 50 per cent decrease in pork imports was seen. But along with this, there was a 12 per cent increase in import volume by-products, indicating an increase in demand from refineries on the low-grade, relatively cheap raw materials.

"Exports of poultry meat also increased by 16 per cent, but in the geographical structure, there has not been much change although the hope for intensification of Ukrainian exports to Russia took place," said Mr Yaroslavsky.
