EU Pig Prices Continue Steady
EU - The prices for slaughter pigs in almost all EU member states have remained unchanged.Sweden alone continues to try and catch up with the rest of Europe after a long period of unchanged prices. Yet, they go on carrying the red light behind the other countries. In Spain, the past two weeks of price decreases came to a halt finally. The price level did not go up as far as it usually does during the summer, so Spain does not expect prices to go on falling more sharply over the coming weeks. Serious discussions related to the further price development are held in Italy between the producers and the slaughter companies.
In the majority of countries, the numbers of slaughter pigs on offer are said to be quite large but are sold swiftly and without any problems. As well as the German market, where far more than a million pigs are slaughtered per week, large numbers of pigs are slaughtered in the neighbouring countries as well. As is heard from many EU member countries, fatter parts are preferred in processed meat in the first place. This in particular applies to the export markets in Eastern Europe and Asia. High-quality parts like ham and loins, however, are more difficult to sell.
Trend for the German market
Pig keepers are still waiting for prices to increase, which is urgently needed. Yet, almost all marketers are receiving numerous registrations of pigs for slaughter for the days ahead. In order to be able to realise a price increase at last, more stimulus is urgently required in pork sales and for high-quality parts in particular.
