Blue ear disease (Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome; PRRS) spread across the country for about six months, according to the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department, says a Chinese source.

As the disease infected pigs, the price of pork in the market dropped.

Blue ear disease once spread to six regions, namely Mandalay, Nay Phi Taw, Magway, Ayeyawaddy, Bago and Yangon.

According to the report, about 5,500 pigs were infected and 2 000 died of the disease.

There is a total of 9.3 million pigs in the country.
