Pork Conference Celebrates 50 Years

CANADA - South Western Ontario Pork Conference (SWOPC) will be celebrating its 50th year on 22 February 2012 at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus.

This year the conference is featuring:

  • James Hofer, Hog Manager at Starlite Colony in Starbuck Manitoba and a Director on Manitoba Pork - speaking on Hutterite Colony Hog Production in Western Canada and the Impact of the Manitoba Hog Barn Expansion Moratorium.

Other presentations include:

  • John Van Engelen, Hog Tied Farms Ltd. and Lambton County regional winner of the Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence in 2010. - Mr Van Engelen will be giving a virtual tour of his hog operation’s unique set up for ventilation, auto sorters and other innovations.

  • Dr Sue Burlatschenko, Goshen Ridge Vet Services is speaking on "Barn Tips and Herd Health Updates for Local Producers."

To celebrate the 50 years of SWOPC, Dr. Jim Morris, Past Co-ordinator of the Conference and Richard Smelski former OMAF Swine Advisor will look at past events and future direction of the pork industry in South Western Ontario.
