Using the Two-Tonne Sow (2TS) calculator at www.2TS.org.uk, it becomes obvious that the largest factor for improving pig performance is the unit’s average number of piglets born alive per litter. Basically, if you are approaching 13 born alive, then the 2TS target is within reach.

Unfortunately, there is not one single event that will ensure your 13 piglets, but a multitude of interrelating factors to be managed.

Watch out for regional workshops in 2012 that will be dedicated to improving litter size.
