As a result, quite a number of countries were able to report price increases. Just as last week, Germany served as forerunner with a price increase of + 3 cents. The threat of strike prices, uttered by major German slaughter companies last Friday, has died away after the announcing of quotations.

In Denmark the quotation was also raised by + 3 cents. In the Netherlands and in Austria the prices went up by + 2 cents, in Belgium by + 1 cent. No price change was reported from Spain. There, the market is reported to be balanced. In France, people are confident that the latest price correction by – 1 cent the bottom has now been reached. After all, France clearly ranks far behind the neighbouring countries.

Trend for the German market: At the beginning of the week, the demand for pigs for slaughter continues to be brisk. At the same time, the scarce supply cannot always be covered promptly. No negative effect is expected to come about on the overall positive atmosphere as a result of the days of slaughter that will be missing this and next week. So, no backlog in supply is expected to pile up over Easter. Thus, the producer prices are anticipated to at least remain stable.
