But domestic pig keepers and meat processors face serious problems, as Russia's imminent entry into the World Trade Organisation will see Russia's import duty on pig meat cancelled, and its import duty on live pigs decrease from 40 per cent to 5 per cent.

According to forecasts, this may lead to an increase of the share of imported pork on the Russian market from 30 percent to 45 per cent.
