EU Pig Prices: Steady as Well as Increasing Quotations
EU - The current week of slaughter has witnessed prices moving closer together in the EU member countries.France above all was able to get closer with its clear 7-cents’ price increase, after the prices had remained far below the neighbouring countries’ quotations for weeks.
There, the quantities on offer lag behind demand. The business over Pentecost was described by the meat dealers to have been particularly good. In Denmark, the producers make their benefit from the well-doing export business towards third countries in particular. The price went up by 3 cents again there. In Spain, the price rose to 1.80 euros. Thus, Spain still ranks far higher than the other European countries.
No price changes were reported from Germany as well as from the Netherlands, Austria and Belgium. The past days’ cold and rainy weather has demand for barbecue meat faltering. On the other hand, the quantities on offer prove to be large enough to allow a possible price increase to happen.
Trend for the German market: Currently, the pork export business is performing well. Nevertheless, stimulus still needs to be created to provide a clear price increase in the domestic business. At this point, there is hope that during the European Football Championship to come many supporters plan barbecues when watching the football games on TV together. From today’s point of view, the prices should remain steady at least.
