EU Pig Prices: Steady Price Levels throughout Europe
EU - The slaughter pig quotations did not change this week in almost all European countries. The markets returned to something like normal again after two weeks of considerable distortion ranging from price increases to massive price reductions.
The French market is being supported by lower quantities of pigs on offer for slaughter and by lower slaughter weights, which result in less fresh meat being on offer.
At the same time, the meat sales are stimulated by the weather being suitable for barbecuing in France.
The market situation proves to be similar in Spain, where the price thus remains on the past weeks’ record level.
From the meat business, first indications for the sales situation to improve are reported. As regards exports toward Asia, exporters from various EU member countries complain, however, about revenues being too low.
The background to this seems to be a price war because of low-priced quotations given by competitors from North and South America.
Trend for the German market: The quantities of pigs for slaughter have continued fall for a few days now. At the same time, increased numbers of pigs are demanded by the slaughter companies again.
Meanwhile, the recently stagnating sales opportunities have clearly lightened up again. For the slaughter week to come, the market expects the prices to remain at least steady.
