From the producers’ point of view, the market situation seems to be friendly throughout Southern Europe. Pigs are in great demand in Spain, Italy and even in France. For weeks now, the slaughter weights have been on a downward trend. This is proven by the good demand from the slaughter companies. Because of teh small numbers of pigs on offer for slaughter, the French price went up by around 5 cents.

In Northern and Central Europe, the atmosphere is less friendly but nonetheless steady. While the meat market in Germany is still regarded as difficult by the slaughter companies, the Danish market observers report steady meat business in Europe as well as in the third-countries’ markets.

As in Germany, no change in prices was seen in the Netherlands and Austria. The prices went slightly up by 1 cent in Belgium.

Trend for the German market: Currently, the market situation proves to be quite well balanced in Germany, even if in view of the high costs.
