New Outbreak of ASF in Krasnodar

RUSSIA - A new outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) has been found in the Krasnodar region of Russia.

A report from the Kropotkin district veterinary laboratory on samples from pigs that died in the the New Agricultural Technologies pig farm in Timashevsk and IOC Bratkovsky in Korenovsk isolated genetic material from the ASF virus.

At the time of the outbreak, New Agricultural Technologies had 2,000 pigs of different age groups while in the Timashevsk area, there are about 8,000 pigs, of which more than 5,500 animals were on private farms.

At JSC "IOC Bratkovsky" there were 2,071 pigs while Korenovsk has about 18,500 animals.

New Agricultural Technologies is about 10km from the centre of the region where the disease is most rampant while OAO "IOC Bratkovsky" is 15km from the centre.

The authorities are taking steps to contain the disease and prevent further spread of infection.
