Farm Produce Prices Show Small Rise

CHINA - The price of major farm produce in 36 medium and large sized cities in China in the week to 21 October remained basically stable with a slight increase compared with that of the previous week, and price of material for production fell mostly, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

The average wholesale price of eight kinds of aquatic products rose 0.6 per cent, of which carp, big yellow croaker, and small cutlass fish rose by 1.1 per cent, 1.1 per cent and 1 per cent respectively.

The wholesale price of meat rose slightly, of which pork price rose by 0.1 per cent compared with that of last week.

The prices of pork in Changsha, Hangzhou and Ningbo rose by 2.5 per cent, 1.2 per cent and 1.1 per cent respectively.

The price of mutton and beef rose 0.6 per cent and 0.5 per cent respectively.

Retail prices of grains and oil basically remained stable and some rose slightly, of which wheat flour and rapeseed oil rose 0.2 per cent and 0.1 per cent as compared with that of the previous week; rice, soybean oil and peanut oil maintained unchanged.

The price of chicken dropped 0.3 per cent. Retail price of eggs continued to drop with a decrease of 0.7 per cent compared with that of previous week. The prices of eggs in Beijing, Tianjin, and Shenzhen were down by 2.3 per cent, 2.1 per cent and 1.1 per cent as compared with that of the previous week respectively, below 10 yuan/ kg.

The average wholesale price of 18 vegetables continued to drop, down by 1.1 per cent as compared with that of the previous week, of which Chinese cabbages, tomatoes, and cabbages dropped with a decrease of 8.1 per cent, 8 per cent and 6.1 per cent respectively.
