OIE: Further Hog Cholera Cases in Latvia

LATVIA - The Latvian veterinary authorities have reported five new outbreaks of classical swine fever or hog cholera in Dagdas county, Ludzas county and Zilupes county.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 4 on 25 January. According to the report, the affected population comprises of wild boar.

A total of five pigs were affected by the outbreak. All the animals were destroyed.

The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive.

According to the OIE, hunting and sampling of wild boar is still on-going. In addition, inspections and sampling of domestic pigs of all holdings within the infected area are continuing.
