OIE: More Classical Swine Fever Outbreaks Reported

LATVIA - The Latvian veterinary authorities have reported 10 outbreaks of classical swine fever, also known as hog cholera, in wild boar in various parishes of Dagdas county in the south-east of the country.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received Follow-up Report No. 3 on 4 January 2013. The affected population comprises wild boar or Sus scrofa (Suidae).

17 cases were reported and all 17 were destroyed.

The source of the outbreaks remain inconclusive.

According to the OIE, on 20 December 2012, following the CVO order. a provisionally infected area was redefined and extended in accordance with Article 15 of Council Directive 2001/89/EC.

In total, 28 wild boars were detected seropositive with Ab ELISA test.

The OIE, in conjunction with the concerned authorities, have applied several measures to eradicate the outbreak.
