Pigs R Us Returns to Cookstown
NORTHERN IRELAND, UK - PIGS R US, the biennial Conference hosted by Parklands Veterinary Group, returns to the Glenavon House Hotel next Wednesday, 10 April, starting at 4pm.

Using the same successful format this event remains the focal point of the Northern Ireland pig industry drawing delegates from near and far to this Cookstown, Co Tyrone venue.
Opening at 4pm a trade display features commercial companies from all sectors of the pig business. Thus producers can meets suppliers of specialist pig equipment and genetics, representatives of major veterinary pharmaceutical companies, feed and supplement manufacturers. Support for the Pigs R Us Conference is also coming from Ulster pig processing plants.

As John Grant MRCVS of Parklands explained: "Despite the continuous financial pressure our local pig industry faces we have always been encouraged by the support this event attracts.
"Over this past couple of months in the run-up to the Conference the Parklands team worked closely with producers, Mark Hawe and Liz Donnelly of CAFRE and PIG REGEN to arrange an array to topical speakers."
This year the three speakers of international repute are:
Dr Johannes Dall DVM from the Porcus Swine Veterinary Group in Denmark, who will discuss focused production and update Ulster producers on production targets his practice sets for their clients and what is achievable.
Dr Anders Elvstrom DVM from Svinepraksis in Denmark will debate Blue Ear (PRRS) Control and Eradication. He has spoken in the UK before and will up date us all on what has since been achieved in Demark at individual herd and regional level.
Iain Mortimer MRCVS, an independent swine consultant, will present an equally practical review of progress in coping with Swine Influenza.
The fourth topic next Wednesday, Pleurisy from farm to factory, will be covered by Parklands vet John Grant.
Following the trade display and Bacon Buttie reception at 5 pm the Pigs R Us conference begins at 7.30 pm and concludes with a 10 pm finger buffet supper.
An additional attraction this year is the ‘Stockman’s Training Workshop’ from 5.45-7.00 pm. David Mulligan CVPM Parklands Practice Manager noting that, "One of areas in which Parklands has benefited greatly in recent years has been in recognised training. When this initiative was brought to the practice in 2010 it was primarily for internal staff development, but has evolved into regular training for farm clients across all farm species.
"This practical workshop for pig producers looks at the Safe and Responsible Use of Veterinary Medicines. A few places are still available for this and can be booked with Karen McConnell tel; 07969 588162 or email [email protected]."
