OIE Reports PRRS Outbreak in Belarus

BELARUS - The country's veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) at a farm in Brest.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification on Friday, 24 May.

According to the report, a total of 40058 pigs were found susceptible to the PRRS virus, out of which 3260 cases and 2458 deaths were reported. No animals were destroyed and/or slaughtered.

Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and real-time PCR tests were conducted, confirming the presence of the PRRS virus in the farm.

A total of 31483 pigs were underwent live attenuated vaccination in the administrative division of Brest.

The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined.
