June Pork Exports Down Compared to a Year Ago

BRAZIL - The volume and value of pork exported in June 2013 was down compared to the same period last year.

According to the latest figures from ABIPECS, Brazil exported 40,626 tons of pork in June, down 7.5 per cent compared to June 2012. The total volume of pork exported in the first half of 2013 was 240,515 tons, compared to 268,784 tons during the same period in 2012, representing a 10.5 per cent decrease.

The value of pork exported in June 2013 was US$98.4 million, down 9.1 per cent from the same month last year. The total value of pork exported from January to June 2013 was US$630.2 million, compared to US$687.3 million at the same point in 2011 (down 8.3 per cent).

The average value of pork in June 2013 was $2,424 per ton, down 1.8 per cent compared to the same month in 2012, where the average value was $2,468 per ton.
