Backyard Pigs Banned in Russian Region
RUSSIA - Russia's Tver region has banned "private" pig farming for the next three years in a bid to bring African swine fever under control.Almost all pig farms in the region are to be closed and the pigs culled, reports the UK's National Pig Association (NPA).
Farmers will be compensated.
The ruling will not affect large commercial pig complexes in the region as they have, according to an official, "the highest level of biological protection".
