In many countries, the pig slaughter quotations went further down still. Most of the pressure is exerted on the part of Germany, thus influencing the European price structure. The quantities of pigs mature for slaughter on offer remained on a high level in Germany last week, allowing the slaughter companies to continue exerting pressure on the pricing.

Apart from in Germany, the quotations also went down in Spain, France, Belgium, Austria, Great Britain and the Netherlands.

Until now, Denmark – currently ranking fourth among the five major pig-keeping EU member countries – has been able to withstand the pressure and has kept its quotation on the level of a corrected 1.751 euros since four weeks.

The Danish exports towards third countries may be regarded as a reason for the Danish prices’ stability.

Trend for the German market: The market starts to run free, this is what is reported by various market participants. As expected, the quantities on offer are going down. The demanding side presents itself as being very capacious. Batches of pigs for slaughter can be placed at short notice, and discounted prices must be accepted. This way, the bottom seems to be reached.
