The objective of these conferences is to bring the world-leading scientists together to exchange information and to present the newest updated knowledge on these infections.

The 6th International Conference on Colonic Spirochaetal Infections in Animals and Humans took place last week at the University of Surrey in England.

The scientific programme of the conference was divided into six sessions:

• Contemporary molecular biological approaches to understand Brachyspira species, Spirochaetal research and the role of colonic Spirochaetosis in humans
• Intestinal Spirochaetosis in poultry
• Role of Treponemas in pigs and cattle
• Colonic Spirochaetosis in animals – diagnosis and classification of colonic spirochaetes
• Sensitivity and resistance of Brachyspira spp and consequences for global swine/poultry production
• Swine dysentery – re-emergence in USA and Canada

The Proceedings contained interesting data on avian Brachyspira species and the effect of Denagard against those, on the epidemiological situation on Brachyspira hampsonii (Canada /USA) and the clinical effect of Denagard against B.hampsonii and on new tiamulin and valnemulin MIC testing results generated with porcine and avian Brachyspira strains.
