SAGARPA Promotes Domestic Pork Consumption

MEXICO - The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) and the Confederation of Mexican Pork (CPM) have signed a cooperation agreement to promote the consumption of domestic pork in the country.

The agreement aims to integrate pork as one of the main ingredients of Mexican cuisine, and with this, increase business opportunities for producers and the associated industry.

Secretary Martinez also said that this collaboration will open new markets for pork in Asian countries and it will emphasize the quality of domestic production.

He noted that countries like Japan, the taste and quality of Mexican pork is regognised. There is also a great opportunity in countries like Viet Nam, Korea and China.

Through Services Agency Marketing and Agricultural Market Development (ASERCA), SAGARPA performs a biannual investment $30 billion in trade promotion activities that benefit the pork and meat industry.
