September Pork Export Volume, Value Down from Previous Year

BRAZIL - The volume and value of pork exported in September were down compared to the same period last year.

According to the latest figures from ABIPECS, Brazil exported 45.996 tons of pork in September 2013, compared to 60.442 tons in the same month last year. This reveals a 24 per cent drop. The total volume of pork exported from January to September 2013 was 389.29 tons compared to 428.23 tons during the same period last year, indicating a nine per cent drop.

The value of pork exported in September was US$123.65, down by as much as 21.5 per cent compared to September 2012, where the figure stood at US$157.6. The total value of pork exported during the first nine months of 2013 was US$1,012.9, compared to US$1,087.8 during the same period last year, down by seven per cent.

The average value of pork in September 2013 was $2,688 per ton, up 3.1 per cent compared to the same month in 2012, where the average value was $2,608 per ton. Overall, the average value of pork during January to September 2013 was $2,602 per ton, up 2.43 per cent compared to the same period in 2012, where the figure stood at $2,540 per ton.
