According to studies by ICA, the classical swine fever virus has killed 35 pigs with clinical evidence of involvement with other animals that were in contact with those that died from the virus.

The ICA has ordered that the farms be quarantined along with total restriction of animal movement besides applying measures such as cleansing and disinfection of the facilities and slaughter of diseased animals.

The ICA is also continuing epidemiological surveillance and monitoring the areas by visiting the affected farms as well as neighbouring towns.

"To date we have visited 42 properties located in the municipalities of El paso, Curumaní, Codazzi Chiriguaná where the health status of the animals were checked, which allowed us to confirm that there are no new outbreaks of the disease," said General Manager of ICA Luis Humberto Martinez Lacouture.
