No Further African Swine Fever Outbreaks in Zambia
ZAMBIA - The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has reported that there have been no further outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Zambia. However, several control measures have still been put in place so as to ensure that the situation is contained.

On Wednesday (11 December), the OIE received follow-up report no. 1 stating that the cause of the outbreak has been determined. Fomites from humans, vehicles and feed etc. have been found to be the source of the ASF outbreak in Lusaka, which occurred on 8 November.
According to the OIE, movement restrictions are in force. Live pigs, pork and pork products are not allowed in or out of Lusaka Province.
Despite the fact that there have been no further ASF outbreaks, the OIE, in conjunction with the Zambian veterinary authorities, have applied several control measures. These are:
- Stamping out
- Quarantine
- Movement control inside the country
- Screening
- Zoning
- Disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s)
The OIE report states that the affected animals have not been treated and vaccination of pigs has not been carried out.
