African Swine Fever Kills Wild Boar

RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of African swine fever in Moskovskaya oblast in which one wild boar was killed.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 1 on Monday, 27 January.

Control of wildlife reservoirs, quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening and disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s) are some of the control measures that have been applied to control the situation.

According to the report, the affected wild boar was tested via a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on 20 January at the Federal Scientific Institution, All-Russia Scientific Institute of Veterinary Virology and Microbiology in Pokrov. The test deduced the presence of the ASF virus.
