Brazil's December Pork Export Volume, Value Down from Year Before

BRAZIL - The volume and value of Brazilian pork exported during December 2013 were lower than the same month of 2012. For the whole of 2013, 11 per cent less pork was exported by Brazil than in the year before.

The latest figures from ABIPECS reveal that Brazil exported 37,349 tons of pork in December, down 7.7 per cent compared to 40,457 tons in December 2012. The total volume of pork exported from January to December 2013 was 517,333 tons compared to 581,523 tons during the same period last year, indicating an 11 per cent drop.

The value of pork exported during December 2013 was US$100.6 million, down by three per cent compared to the same month in 2012, where the figure stood at US$103.65 million. The total value of pork exported during January to December 2013 was US$1.358 billion, compared to US$1.495 billion during the same period in 2012, down by 9.1 per cent.

The average value of pork in December 2013 was $2,694 per ton, up 5.1 per cent compared to the same month the previous year, where the average value was $2,562 per ton. Overall, the average value of pork during January to December 2013 was $2,627 per ton, up 2.2 per cent compared to the same period in 2012, where the figure stood at $2,571 per ton.
