By farm class, this figure for the total number of positive laboratory swine accessions/diagnostic case submissions as follows between the weeks of 15 April and 29 December: suckling, 437 (+24); nursery, 401 (+25); grower/finisher, 633 (+34); sows/boars, 241 (+16) and 402 (+44) unknown. The total is up 134 from the previous week.

California and Wyoming have reported their first positive results in the most recent week and so the total number of states affected now stands at 22. Those states with 20 or more positive tests are: Iowa, 770; North Carolina, 301; Oklahoma, 272; Minnesota, 217; Kansas, 143; Illinois, 71; Indiana, 67; Ohio, 60; Colorado, 35; Pennsylvania, 28 and Texas, 26.

For the most recent week, Iowa once again leads the 'league table' in the number of new positive results, accounting for 54 of the total of 134 new cases, followed by Minnesota with 20, North Carolina with 18 and Illinois with 14. In both Iowa and North Carolina, the majority of new cases were from grower-finisher units.

In mid-June, the reporting system was adjusted. For the weeks prior to 16 June, laboratories were able to provide diagnostic case submissions as well as the number of premises testing positive for the PED virus (PEDv). Since 16 June, the data refer only to diagnostic cases submissions ('swine accessions').

From the week of 16 June to week of 29 December, the total number of biological (swine) samples testing positive is 6,593, up 564 from the previous week - the biggest increase so far. The most-affected states by this measure are: North Carolina, 1,799; Iowa, 1,392; Oklahoma, 1,016; Kansas, 646; Minnesota, 565; Illinois, 370; Ohio, 204; Colorado, 115, Missouri, 106, Texas, 90; Indiana, 85 and Pennsylvania, 84. Other states, where positive, reported 50 positives or fewer.

In the most recent week reported (week of 29 December), the following states reported one or more positive results: California, (1), Iowa (129), Illinois (150), Indiana (4), Kansas (14), Minnesota (50), Missouri (18), North Carolina (137), Ohio (13), Oklahoma (13), South Dakota (7), Tennessee (7), Texas (6) and Wyoming (10). The increases in Illinois - 150 new positive samples - is striking.

The total number of environmental samples testing positive for PEDv has been reported weekly since the week of 16 June. The total has reached 1,374, which is 39 more than the previous week's figure. The totals for each state are as follows (with the increase in brackets: Colorado, 19 (+1); Iowa, 182 (+11); Illinois, 40 (+1); Kansas, 179 (+2); Michigan 1 (=), Minnesota, 4270 (+7); Missouri, 35 (=); North Carolina, 91 (+6); Nebraska, 8 (=); New York 1 (=); Ohio, 47 (=); Oklahoma 261 (+1); Pennsylvania, 9 (=); South Dakota, 2 (=); Tennessee, 8 (=); Texas, 12 (+1); Virginia, 2 (=); unknown, 50 (=). Some of the last week's figures appear to have been adjusted since the last report.
