By farm class, this figure for the total number of positive laboratory swine accessions/diagnostic case submissions as follows between the weeks of 15 April and 19 January: suckling, 542 (+31); nursery, 522 (+34); grower/finisher, 764 (+51); sows/boars, 271 (+11) and 631 (+90) unknown. The total is up 215 from the previous week.

No states have reported a first positive test results in the last week and so the total number of states remains at 23. Those states with 20 or more positive tests are: Iowa, 1,006; North Carolina, 352; Minnesota, 346; Oklahoma, 286; Kansas, 169; Illinois, 120; Ohio and Indiana, 83; Colorado, 41; Texas, 34; Pennsylvania, 32; Missouri, 29 and Michigan, 21.

For the most recent week, Iowa again leads the 'league table' in the number of new positive results, accounting for 68 of the total of 215 new cases, followed by Minnesota with 51 and illinois with 21.

Of the 215 new cases attributed to a production phase, 51 were in grower/finishers, 34 in nurseries and 31 in suckling piglets with 11 in sows/boars. Ninety samples were classified as "unknown".

In mid-June, the reporting system was adjusted. For the weeks prior to 16 June, laboratories were able to provide diagnostic case submissions as well as the number of premises testing positive for the PED virus (PEDv). Since 16 June, the data refer only to diagnostic cases submissions ('swine accessions').

From the week of 16 June to that of 19 January, the total number of biological (swine) samples testing positive is 8,541 - up 786 from the previous week and another record-breaking weekly increasese. The most-affected states by this measure are: North Carolina, 2,331; Iowa, 1,910; Oklahoma, 1,058; Minnesota, 824; Kansas, 726; Illinois, 609; Ohio, 261; Missouri, 146; Colorado, 142; Texas, 118; Indiana, 105 and Pennsylvania, 92. Other states, where positive, reported 50 positives or fewer.

In the most recent week reported (week of 19 January), the following states reported one or more positive results: Colorado (15), Iowa (158), Illinois (89), Indiana (13), Kansas (40), Kentucky (1), Michigan (13), Minnesota (104), Missouri (31), North Carolina (238), Nebraska (3), Ohio (26), Oklahoma (16), Pennsylvania (2), South Dakota (9), Tennessee (8) and Texas (9).

The total number of environmental samples testing positive for PEDv has been reported weekly since the week of 16 June. The total has reached 1,863, which is 123 more than the previous week's figure. The totals for each state are as follows (with the increase in brackets: Colorado, 21 (+2); Iowa, 245 (+8); Illinois, 63 (=); Indiana, 5 (+4); Kansas, 207 (+14); Kentucky, 2 (=); Michigan 1 (=), Minnesota, 614 (+43); Missouri, 80 (=); North Carolina, 122 (+13); Nebraska, 11 (+2); New York 1 (=); Ohio, 81 (+21); Oklahoma 292 (+13); Pennsylvania, 11 (=); South Dakota, 10 (+2); Tennessee, 18 (=); Texas, 24 (=); Virginia, 2 (=); unknown, 51 (+1).
