Brazilian Pork Exports Dropped in Volume, Value in February

BRAZIL - Compared to the same month last year, pork exports during February were down 10 per cent in volume and 11 per cent in US$-value.

The latest figures from ABIPECS reveal that Brazil exported 36,940 tons of pork in February, 10.0 per cent less than the 41,048 tons in the same month last year.

The value of pork exported during February was US$96.5 million, down 11.1 per cent compared to the same month in 2013, where the figure stood at $108.6 million.

The average value of pork exported in February was $2,613 per ton, down 1.3 per cent compared to the same month last year, when the average was $2,647 per ton.

For 2014 so far, pork export sales have reached 71,808 tons, 11.5 per cent less than at the same point last year. The average price is down a shade under one per cent at $2,602, bringing the total value of Brazilian pork sales for 2014 to $186.8 million. That is a drop of 12.4 per cent from 2013.
