PRRS Reported in Mongolian Pigs

MONGOLIA - An outbreak of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) has been reported at a pig farm in central Mongolia

The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Report dated 3 April to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

It reports an outbreak of PRRS at 5 khoroo in the region of Tuv, starting on 18 March. On a farm of 337 pigs, 293 showed symptoms of the disease and 44 died. All pigs showing symptoms have been destroyed.

The last PRRS outbreak in the country was in September 2011.

The usual control measures are being applied: stamping-out, quarantine, screening, dipping/spraying. There is no vaccination and affected animals are not being treated.
