One of the main objectives of the authorities was to emphasize that this disease does not affect humans.

In this regard, the Secretary Ternicier said: "Although PRRS does not affect humans, it is an infectious disease that can lead to large production losses to the swine industry. Therefore, we have combined our efforts with the private sector to work on a national plan to control and finally eradicate the disease in the country."

The industry and the Ministry of Agriculture have prepared a plan which invests around $1,400 million, of which 60 per cent will be a state contribution and 40 per cent will be from industry.
