Rosselkhoznadzor reports that, in spite of measures taken by the Polish Veterinary Service and repeated warnings from the Russian Service, mass mortality of wild boars in Poland continues. On 6 May 2014, 10 dead animals were found in the Obra River in the Greater Poland Voivodeship in the Western Poland.

The service reports that the clinical presentation is similar to that observed in the pictures taken in the place of the dead animal discovery is well known for those domestic veterinary experts, who participated in the African swine fever (ASF) outbreak containment.

The diagnosis needs to be confirmed by laboratory diagnosis and differentiation from other diseases, such as Classical Swine Fever. According to the OIE official data, Poland has been free of Classical Swine Fever since 1994.

Rosselkhoznadzor called on the Polish veterinary service for information on these cases.
