PED-Positive Farm Samples in US: 7,250
US - The total number of pig farm samples that have tested positive for the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea (PED) virus now stands at 7,250 in 30 states, writes Jackie Linden.The National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) reports 138 positive accessions out of 763 tested at seven veterinary diagnostic labs for the week ending 7 June, according to the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV). The number of states reported to the NAHLN as having at least one confirmed case of PED remains at 30.

Pig Farm Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 7,250
The total number of pig farm samples (termed 'laboratory biological accessions' in the official report) that have tested positive for the PED virus (PEDv) since April 2013 now stands at 7,250, which includes 138 for the month of June so far.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 21,506 farm samples have been tested, of which 29 per cent have tested positive for the virus.

Results by age class
Suckling pigs
For the current month to date, 134 farms have been tested, of which 35 samples or 265 per cent were positive for PEDv.In May, 568 farms were tested, of which 189 samples or 35 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 2,995 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,578 samples or 46 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Nursery pigs
For the current month to date, 97 farms have been tested, of which 190 samples or 20 per cent were positive for PEDv.
In May, 512 farms were tested, of which 120 samples or 23 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 3,380 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,3089 samples or 34 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Grower/finisher pigs
For the current month to date, 128 farms have been tested, of which 176 samples or 13 per cent were positive for PEDv.
In May, 594 farms were tested, of which 106 samples or 18 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 3,794 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,312 samples or 26 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Sows and boars
For the current month to date, 82 farms have been tested, of which seven samples or 8.5 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
In May, 413 farms were tested, of which 61 samples or 15 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 1,834 farm samples have been tested, of which 622 samples or 25 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Unknown age class
For the current month to date, 347 farms have been tested, of which 61 samples or 18 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 10,276 farm samples have been tested, of which 2,631 samples or 24 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Results by state
According to AASV, the total number of states affected remains at 30.
The total number of positive accessions on this report (up to the week of 1 June) is 7,250.
Those states with 100 or more positive tests are: Iowa, 2,086; Minnesota, 1,204; Illinois, 763; North Carolina, 724; Oklahoma, 401; Indiana, 388; Ohio, 325; Kansas, 266; Missouri, 209, Michigan, 186 and Nebraska, 143.
For the most recent week (week of 1 June), most of the new cases - 31 of the 138 new positive results - were in Minnesota, followed by Iowa with 20, North Carolina with 18 and Illinois with 16.
Also reporting one or more positive results were Colorado, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and Texas.
Pig Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 26,775
The total number of swine samples (termed 'biological samples' in the official report) since testing began in June 2013 now stands at 26,775.
For the current month to date, 5,938 samples have been tested, of which 7043 or 12 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
In May, 26,390 samples were tested, of which 3,925 samples or 15 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 111,110 samples have been tested, of which 22 per cent tested positive for PEDv.

Environmental Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 6,155
The total number of environmental samples testing positive since testing began in June 2013 now stands at 6,155.
For the current month to date, 1,421 samples have been tested, of which 171 or 12 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
In May, 4,519 samples were tested, of which 882 samples or 20 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 23,798 samples have been tested, of which 23 per cent tested positive.
