PED-Positive Farm Samples in US: 7,348; Arkansas Reports First Positive Test
US - The total number of pig farm samples that have tested positive for the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea (PED) virus now stands at 7,348 in 31 states, writes Jackie Linden.The National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) reports 97 positive accessions out of 741 tested at nine veterinary diagnostic labs for the week ending 14 June, according to the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV).
Arkansas has reported its first case of PEDv this week. The number of states reported to the NAHLN as having at least one confirmed case of PED is now 31.

Pig Farm Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 7,348
The total number of pig farm samples (termed 'laboratory biological accessions' in the official report) that have tested positive for the PED virus (PEDv) since April 2013 now stands at 7,348, which includes 236 for the month of June so far.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 22,272 farm samples have been tested, of which 29 per cent have tested positive for the virus.

Results by age class
Suckling pigs
For the current month to date, 249 farms have been tested, of which 60 samples or 24 per cent were positive for PEDv.Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 3,110 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,603 samples or 45 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Nursery pigs
For the current month to date, 182 farms have been tested, of which 30 samples or 17 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 3,465 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,319 samples or 34 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Grower/finisher pigs
For the current month to date, 234 farms have been tested, of which 31 samples or 13 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 3,900 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,3126 samples or 26 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Sows and boars
For the current month to date, 168 farms have been tested, of which 12 samples or seven per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 1,920 farm samples have been tested, of which 627 samples or 24 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Unknown age class
For the current month to date, 743 farms have been tested, of which 107 samples or 14 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 10,679 farm samples have been tested, of which 2,659 samples or 24 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Results by state
According to AASV, the total number of states affected now stands at 31 after Arkansas recorded its first PED-positive result in the most recent week.
The total number of positive accessions on this report (up to the week of 8 June) is 7,348.
Those states with 100 or more positive tests are: Iowa, 2,100; Minnesota, 1,223; Illinois, 777; North Carolina, 734; Oklahoma, 406; Indiana, 391; Ohio, 327; Kansas, 267; Missouri, 217, Michigan, 189 and Nebraska, 153.
For the most recent week (week of 8 June), most of the new cases - 19 of the 97 new positive results - were in Minnesota, followed by Iowa and Illinois with 14 each, and North Carolina and Nebraska, each with 10.
Also reporting one or more positive results were Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas.
Pig Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 27,318
The total number of swine samples (termed 'biological samples' in the official report) since testing began in June 2013 now stands at 27,318.
For the current month to date, 11,620 samples have been tested, of which 1,247 or 11 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 116,865 samples have been tested, of which 21 per cent tested positive for PEDv.

Environmental Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 6,265
The total number of environmental samples testing positive since testing began in June 2013 now stands at 6,265.
For the current month to date, 2,291 samples have been tested, of which 281 or 12 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 24,674 samples have been tested, of which 23 per cent tested positive.
