Tests Confirm Presence of African Swine Fever in Wild Boar

RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary authorities have confirmed a further outbreak of African swine fever in Tverskaya oblast.

According to follow-up report no. 14 sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on Monday, 23 June, a wild boar was shot at 1.5 km of the village Gorbunovo on 9 June.

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests carried out on 20 June confirmed that the wild boar was infected with African swine fever virus. The carcass was incinerated.

The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
