More African Swine Fever at Russian Pig Farm

RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary authorities have reported a further outbreak of African swine fever at a pig farm in Tulskaya Oblast.

According to follow-up report no. 21 sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on Wednesday, 23 July, the outbreak took place on 21 July. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were carried out on 22 and 23 July, both confirming the presence of the ASF virus at the farm.

According to the report, a total of 367 pigs were found susceptible, out of which five cases were reported. All five affected animals were reportedly found dead.

The source of the outbreaks has still not yet been determined.

The OIE, in conjunction with the country's competent veterinary authorities, have applied several control measures in order to contain the situation.
