OIE Reports More African Swine Fever in Russia

RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary authorities have reported two further outbreaks of African Swine fever in Pskov Oblast and Kaluga Oblast.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 22 on Thursday, 24 July.

According to the report, a total of 22,382 pigs were found susceptible, out of which three cases were reported. The three infected animals were reportedly found dead. No animals have been destroyed and/or slaughtered.

On 22 July, direct immunofluorescence (DIF), real-time PCR and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were carried out while on 23 July, another polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test was conducted. All tests resulted positive.

The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive.
