PED-Positive Farm Samples in US: 7,447
US - The total number of pig farm samples that have tested positive for the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea (PED) virus now stands at 7,447 in 30 states, writes Jackie Linden.The National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) reports reports 98 positive accessions out of 795 tested at 11 veterinary diagnostic labs for the week ending 21 June 2014, according to the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV).
Last week's report incorrectly identified Arkansas as the latest state to report an initial case of PEDv. NAHLN has corrected that report this week. The number of states reported to the NAHLN as having at least one confirmed case of PED reverts back to 30.

Pig Farm Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 7,447
The total number of pig farm samples (termed 'laboratory biological accessions' in the official report) that have tested positive for the PED virus (PEDv) since April 2013 now stands at 7,447, which includes 335 for the month of June so far.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 23,083 farm samples have been tested, of which 28 per cent have tested positive for the virus.

Results by age class
Suckling pigs
For the current month to date, 383 farms have been tested, of which 81 samples or 21 per cent were positive for PEDv.Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 3,244 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,624 samples or 44 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Nursery pigs
For the current month to date, 296 farms have been tested, of which 52 samples or 18 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 3,578 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,340 samples or 33 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Grower/finisher pigs
For the current month to date, 372 farms have been tested, of which 42 samples or 11 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 4,039 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,338 samples or 25 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Sows and boars
For the current month to date, 253 farms have been tested, of which 15 samples or six per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 2,005 farm samples have been tested, of which 630 samples or 23 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Unknown age class
For the current month to date, 1,108 farms have been tested, of which 150 samples or 14 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 11,043 farm samples have been tested, of which 2,702 samples or 23 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Results by state
According to AASV, the total number of states remains at 30.
The total number of positive accessions on this report (up to the week of 15 June) is 7,447.
Those states with 100 or more positive tests are: Iowa, 2,115; Minnesota, 1,239; Illinois, 793; North Carolina, 742; Oklahoma, 407; Indiana, 398; Ohio, 330; Kansas, 268; Missouri, 229, Michigan, 196; Nebraska, 157 and South Dakota, 102.
For the most recent week (week of 15 June), most of the new cases - 16 of the 98 new positive results - were in Illinois and Minnesota, followed by Iowa with 15.
Also reporting one or more positive results were Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.
Pig Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 27,827
The total number of swine samples (termed 'biological samples' in the official report) since testing began in June 2013 now stands at 27,827.
For the current month to date, 17,923 samples have been tested, of which 1,756 or 10 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 123,168 samples have been tested, of which 20 per cent tested positive for PEDv.

Environmental Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 6,371
The total number of environmental samples testing positive since testing began in June 2013 now stands at 6,371.
For the current month to date, 3,163 samples have been tested, of which 387 or 12 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 25,546 samples have been tested, of which 23 per cent tested positive.
