New Outbreak of African Swine Fever on Latvian Farm

LATVIA - African swine fever has been confirmed on a pig farm in south-eastern Latvia.

The Food and Veterinary Service has received laboratory test results that confirm the presence of African swine fever on a farm in Skaista County in the region of Kraslava, reports the Latvia news agency, LETA.

A spokesperson for the Service said the farm has 196 pigs and is located in the area where the state of emergency has been declared.

Affected pigs have been destroyed and the farm has been disinfected.

Since the first case of African swine fever at the end of June 2014, LETA reports that the virus has been confirmed in 45 wild boars and 46 domestic pigs.
