PED-Positive Farm Samples in US: 7,893
US - The total number of pig farm samples that have tested positive for the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea (PED) virus now stands at 7,893 in 30 states, writes Jackie Linden. There were 79 new positive samples in the most recent week reported.The National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) reports 91 positive accessions out of 830 tested at eight veterinary diagnostic labs for the week ending 20 July, according to the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV).
The number of states reported to the NAHLN as having at least one confirmed case of PED remains at 30.

Pig Farm Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 7,893
The total number of pig farm samples (termed 'laboratory biological accessions' in the official report) that have tested positive for the PED virus (PEDv) since April 2013 now stands at 7,893, which includes 91 for the most recent week and 332 for the month of July so far.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 26,954 farm samples have been tested, of which 26 per cent have tested positive for the virus.

Results by age class
Suckling pigs
For the current month to date, 430 farms have been tested, of which 76 samples or 18 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 3,798 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,727 samples or 40 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Nursery pigs
For the current month to date, 399 farms have been tested, of which 52 samples or 13 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 4,088 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,409 samples or 31 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Grower/finisher pigs
For the current month to date, 452 farms have been tested, of which 32 samples or 7.1 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 4,614 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,386 samples or 23 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Sows and boars
For the current month to date, 223 farms have been tested, of which 16 samples or 7.2 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 2,306 farm samples have been tested, of which 650 samples or 21 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Unknown age class
For the current month to date, 1,577 farms have been tested, of which 162 samples or 10 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 13,109 farm samples have been tested, of which 2,917 samples or 21 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Results by state
According to AASV, the total number of states remains at 30.
The total number of positive accessions on this report (up to the week of 20 July) is 7,893, 91 more than the previous week.
Those states with 100 or more positive tests are: Iowa, 2,195; Minnesota, 1,306; Illinois, 861; North Carolina, 780; Oklahoma, 428; Indiana, 414; Ohio, 355; Kansas, 273; Missouri, 266; Michigan, 208; Nebraska, 183 and South Dakota, 124.
For the most recent week (week of 20 July), the state reporting the most new positive tests was Iowa with 18, followed by Minnesota with 14 and Illinois with 11.
Also reporting one or more positive results were California, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvanai, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming.
Pig Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 29,970
The total number of swine samples (termed 'biological samples' in the official report) since testing began in June 2013 now stands at 29,970.
For the current month to date, 21,806 samples have been tested, of which 1,501 samples or 6.9 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 151,912 samples have been tested, of which 18 per cent tested positive for PEDv.

Environmental Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 6,746
The total number of environmental samples testing positive since testing began in June 2013 now stands at 6,746.
For the current month to date, 3,328 samples have been tested, of which 323 or 9.7 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 29,640 samples have been tested, of which 21 per cent tested positive.
