Pigs, Wild Boars Affected by African Swine Fever Outbreaks
RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary authorities have reported three further outbreaks of African swine fever in Smolensk Oblast and Kaluga Oblast.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 27 on Friday, 22 August. The report states that the affected population comprises pigs and wild boars.
In the first outbreak, which started 3 July, one wild boar, Sus scrofa (Suidae), was found affected. The animal was destroyed.
In the second outbreak, which started 2 August, one case and death was reported.
The third outbreak started 14 August and out of 29 susceptible pigs, two cases and deaths were reported.
The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive.
